Recursive Translations between Stories and Landscapes: An Interdisciplinary Approach to Iceland

Spring 2023 GGR Recipient

Ari Bell (Architecture)

Through participation in the Wright-Ingraham Institute’s Icelandic Field Stations program, this project will advance research at the intersection of science, the humanities, and landscape architecture. By engaging in field work, writing, and interdisciplinary collaborations, I will question how the methods of landscape architecture can better interrogate and activate their cultural and ecological contexts. As a result, this work will consider how Iceland’s stories and narratives emerge from its landscapes and how those narratives, in turn, inscribe themselves in the earth.
