My project explores the ways in which Indigenous Australian artists from the Tiwi Islands invoke ceremonial performance in their artistic practices.

Dr. Moutu will guide the work of UVA students enrolled in my Curating Culture course, contribute to the Fralin’s knowledge about their collection of Oceanic art, give lectures, and connect with professionals in anthropology and museums at UVA and other institutions in the region.

Yolŋu cultural practitioner and activist Mayatili Marika will deliver the W. Wanambi Distinguished Lecture in the Dome Room of the Rotunda on February 3, 2024.

The Global Ecoacoustics Project is a collaborative global initiative between the University of Virginia, and institutions in Australia, Colorado and Alaska.

This project brings scholars and museum professionals together with Indigenous knowledge holders from Central Arnhem Land, Australia, to address issues pertaining to access and management of cultural objects and archival materials in museum collections.
