Spring 2021 Grant Recipient

M. Tayyab Safdar (Politics) and Dorothy C. Wong (Art History)

China continues to consolidate its emerging position as a global power in a post-Covid World. Despite setbacks, the Belt & Road Initiative continues to expand, and China is projecting its influence through trade, investments, and soft power in Eurasia, Southeast Asia, and beyond. Through a number of collaborative working groups in Pan-area Study of BRI, Historical Antecedents of BRI and Data Collections and Environmental Issues, the Assessment of China’s BRI project will continue to enhance our understanding of the BRI, China’s motivations for launching the Initiative and the reaction from countries that are a part of the Initiative.
