This is a collaboration with the Athar Lina Initiate to conduct research and create co- design strategies for socially and contextually aware modes of turning the water that is inundating historic buildings into a resource for improving the social and built environments of the Al-Khalifa neighborhood in Cairo, Egypt. This innovative project creatively intertwines the need for heritage conservation, urban agriculture, and green urban interventions that mitigate rising temperatures due to climate change. It draws on the expertise in anthropology by Tessa Farmer (A&S), urban design by Phoebe Crisman (School of Architecture) and systems modeling by Majid Shafiee-Jood (School of Engineering and Applied Science).
