Funding the Crisis in Ukraine Against the Russian Invasion

Spring 2024 Center Grant Recipient

James Savage (Politics & Public Policy)

My research examines how since Russia invaded Ukraine the European Union has budgeted and provided critical financial support from both the supranational EU level and the EU’s twenty-seven member states to aid President Zelensky and the Ukrainians. This funding for Ukraine comes at a time when the EU has been greatly pressured financially and economically by the Syrian refugee crisis, Covid, and by the uncertainties of funding by the United States for Ukraine due to American politics. The Ukrainian crisis has tremendous significance for EU politics, budgeting, and economic policy.
