Nora Benedict(Spanish/Italian/Portuguese) My dissertation explores the writings of Jorge Luis Borges, an Argentinean poet, essayist, and short story writer, from the vantage point of analytical bibliography. Within one of my chapters, I hope to look to ledgers and other financial documents in publishers' archives to help determine some of the more economic factors in play with Borges's books, such as the cost of paper or the number of copies produced in a specific year. That being said, the financial support from the Center for Global Inquiry and Innovation will allow me to attend Michael Winship's Rare Book School course on "Reading Publishers' Archives for the Study of the American Book," which will help me analyze and work through raw data I plan to collect in Argentinean archives during the summer of 2015.
