From November 14 to 17 Nicaraguan activist and previous Sandinista commander Dora María Téllez and Nicaraguan human rights activist Ana Margarita Vijil will be visiting the UVA campus to talk to students, faculty and community members about their experiences under Nicaragua’s current dictatorship and their visions for change.  

After enduring solitary imprisonment for twenty months, both women were let free thanks to the pressure of foreign human rights groups. They have nonetheless been stripped of their Nicaraguan citizenship and continue to fight for the freedom of other imprisoned activists and an end to Nicaragua’s current dictatorship.
