The Tsz Shan Monastery Buddhist Art Museum in Hong Kong, which opened in 2019, is one of the world’s largest Buddhist mega-projects with a state-of-the-art museum underneath a colossal Guanyin statue.

Nnenna Onyima studies the representation of spirits and bodies in African narratives. Her work interrogates how African creatives depict the conviction held by most African nations in the existence of the spirit world and the physical world.

My study will consider the scalar relationship between embodiment, indigenous craftsmanship, and the commodification of land, asking how we, as designers, can apply the idea of scaling to use the details of a place as a method to understand the whole.

Concerted efforts to study China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) at the University began with the major conference, “Complementing and Competing Visions of China’s Belt and Road Initiative,” held on March 2, 2019.

This project consists of a year-long thesis study surrounding the influence of French garden design on the American landscape as traced through the distribution of French botanical art of the 18th century.

We propose to convene in 2024 an international gathering of scholars and practitioners working across different disciplines in the Amazonian and Andean regions.
