This project seeks to revitalize study of the intimate as a critical site for the humanistic study of empire and its postcolonial legacies.

This project studies the domestic and international roots of the ethnopolitical transformation in Yanbian, the Korean autonomous region along the Chinese-North Korean border, as a unique case of China’s modern territoriality change and state building in its frontiers.

My work focuses on the transnational peace movement during the last decade of the Cold War.

The project examines portraits of the Ottonian rulers Henry II and Kunigunde (r. 1002-1024) featured in manuscripts, altar frontals, and other liturgical implements within their early-eleventh-century cathedral treasury contexts.

I will travel to Tepotzotlán to visit colonial and baroque art collections that portray skeletal representations of death housed at the Museo Nacional del Virreinato in Mexico.
