This funding will support my Masters of Architecture graduate thesis project, which will examine the possible spatial and conceptual future for post-mining landscapes in the intermountain American West.

This project will promote an understanding of the international interdependence of horticulture and will disseminate the ways in which vernacular landscapes provide a form of resilience. 

What can Gandhian ideas offer to a world caught in ever-expanding environmental crises?

Since 2010, Central Chile has experienced particularly dry and hot conditions, which caused more severe wildfires to spread and pose an increasing threat to the Chilean population.

Changing climate requires resilient ecological systems, human communities, and built environments.

Through participation in the Wright-Ingraham Institute’s Icelandic Field Stations program, this project will advance research at the intersection of science, the humanities, and landscape architecture.

In this “Community-Engaged” education abroad program UVA undergraduates will gain applied research experience focused on the proposed redevelopment of a 40-km stretch of the Hồng (Red) River in Vietnam’s capital.

This project will investigate local adaptation in the timing of dormancy, the cues associated with the entrance and exit of dormancy.

My study will consider the scalar relationship between embodiment, indigenous craftsmanship, and the commodification of land, asking how we, as designers, can apply the idea of scaling to use the details of a place as a method to understand the whole.
