Global Collaboration Around Earth Observations from Space to Augment Wildfire Risk Assessment on the Ground
- Benjamin Goffin (Civil Engineering & Applied Sciences)
Since 2010, Central Chile has experienced particularly dry and hot conditions, which caused more severe wildfires to spread and pose an increasing threat to the Chilean population living at the wildland-urban interface and beyond. For the past two summers, Benjamin Goffin worked as a Project Lead within the NASA DEVELOP national program and collaborated with Chilean counterparts to build capacity around Earth observations from space. With generous support from the CGII Graduate Global Research Grant, Benjamin will work alongside public stakeholders in Chile to explore how satellite measurements could serve as an indicator of wildfire risk and inform wildfire management near real time.
