UVA in Vietnam - Hanoi’s Hong River: Climate, Development, and Rights to the City, Summer Term 2023
- Spencer Phillips (Global Studies)
In this “Community-Engaged” education abroad program UVA undergraduates will gain applied research experience focused on the proposed redevelopment of a 40-km stretch of the Hồng (Red) River in Vietnam’s capital. UVA scholars will work with counterparts from Vietnam National University (VNU) and learn from local experts in history, archaeolgoy, ecology, law, and policy. Our goal is to complete research on the complex ecological-economic issues of sustainability, justice, economic efficiency, plus even international relations. It is also fertile ground for the UVA and VNU students to learn how science, design, policy, and business can interact in cities to affect societal outcomes.
