My project is interested in investigating through interviews with French municipal organizations and (agri-)cultural associations how the country is using compost to help transition to a circular economy by 2030. Namely, I am interested in how the practice of compost is becoming a cultural phenomenon in addition to a technique of waste management. How is the country of France encouraging its citizens to care for the soil by attending to their organic waste? And how, in general, can valuing one’s rotting organic material help us beyond a linear economy of accumulation and growth?
