In Search of Play

This funding will support ongoing research on the design of urban play spaces in the built environment which questions their capacity to promote playfulness for people of all ages, not only children. This work examines the play-space as a unique urban condition that allows for curiosity and discovery beyond the prescribed spaces where adults can typically be “playful.” This funding will be used to travel to Copenhagen, a city known for its commitment to inclusivity and playful urban design, and analyze how the existence, inclusion, and access to play spaces functions in Copenhagen's built environment.
