Pyro-Meteorological Analysis of Wildfire Events and Field Collaboration in Greece
This project explores post-wildfire hydrological risks through a collaboration between UVA and Greek research institutions. By combining satellite earth observations with in-situ fieldwork, it seeks to improve predictions of erosion, debris flow, and watershed impacts following wildfire events. The research builds on prior work assessing soil moisture and vegetation conditions in Greece and expands to include post-fire effects through field visits in Chalkidiki. Collaborations with Professor Alexandra Gemitzi (Democritus University of Thrace) and Dr. Theodore Giannaros (National Observatory of Athens) will help advance global modeling approaches for wildfire-impacted regions, particularly in underrepresented Mediterranean environments.
