This in-depth qualitative study examines Korean-American immigrant families’ processes of meaning-making and action in relation to the formal education of children, and the role of a Korean immigrant church community network – comprised of the church and key social and cultural institutions connected to the church – in shaping these experiences of formal education. Using a phenomenological approach, this project seeks to provide insight into the significance of social and cultural institutions and settings outside of the formal school environment for children’s education, development, and overall flourishing, particularly as they relate to the integration of newcomer youth and their families into receiving societies
