The project pilots a multimedia, interdisciplinary exhibition model that explores synergistic interconnections between art forms (from antiquity to the present), taps into longer-term loans from large metropolitan museums, and brings high-quality exhibits to Charlottesville. It utilizes exhibitions as a springboard for drawing awareness to broader societal issues, such as the complexities of identity across political or cultural frontiers, the impact of war on living stakeholder communities and their cultural heritage, and the 'territories of the mind' that continue to guide the interpretation of ancient artifacts. It interlaces teaching, research and exhibitions, enhancing the Fralin's capacity to act as a collaboration hub for students, staff, and faculty.
