Building a Timber Construction Consortium at the UVA Morven Sustainability Lab
This initiative supports the public launch of a Timber Construction Consortium at UVA’s Morven Sustainability Lab, a 3000-acre land lab geographically located within the rapidly changing Southeastern wood basket. This research group bridges expertise from forest to tree to timber to building (ecology, forestry, urban forestry, landscape architecture, architecture, engineering, construction, and economic development) and builds capacity for research on new models of small-land holding forestry and wood construction innovation. A public- and industry-facing launch symposium and exhibition will bolster national and global awareness of UVA research, foster exchange between far flung research groups, and build on global developments in timber construction to develop transferrable sustainable forest ecology and construction practices.
