The Center's funds enabled me to present a conference paper based on my developing dissertation.

The question of core vs periphery has been intensely debated in the social sciences and the humanities since the 1970s, following the publication of Wallerstein's (1974) seminal study on World Systems.

By connecting known Chinese st≈´pasdated before the seventh century CE to historical records and Buddhist scriptures translated in Chinese, my dissertation examines the dissemination and reception of the Indianst≈´pasin early medieval China.

This project explores the implications of the Education Revolution - i.e. global spread of mass formal education and the meanings it creates.

My dissertation focuses on an empathetic reading of narratives about abortion by French women writers and filmmakers.

The 2017 Ambassador William C. Battle Symposium, "U.S. Presidents Confront the Russians: A Century of Challenge, 1917-2017," will explore the contemporary relevance of the history of Russian-American relations.

Our current crisis of climate change was preceded by the crisis of stratospheric ozone depletion and the subsequent "hole in the ozone layer," in the 1970s and 80s.

This workshop will bring together humanities scholars working on information management (the process and methods by which information is stored, structured, made retrievable, and circulated), particularly in relationship to literary history.
