I will conduct travel research to Denmark and Sweden to study the design and management of nature-based learning environments in K-12 schools for comparison with U.S. approaches.

Brookes (Revisited) is the first design exhibition to accurately visualize the iconic 1788 drawing “Stowage of the British Slave Ship Brookes under the Regulated Slave Trade Act of 1788,” created by abolitionists and politicians using architectural techniques.

This research integrates several methods to comprehend the movements of forcibly displaced people in Athens, Greece, and neighboring areas.

Outcomes include a suite of new practices, an open access Generative Contemplation Toolkit, and launch of the Contemplative Design Lab at UVA.

In the face of climate disaster and gross inequity, degrowth is a sociopolitical movement that proposes an alternative to the hegemony of capitalist economism and commodification, advocating for a collectively supportive, equitable and non-accumulative way of life.

Archaeological excavations at San Jacinto, an ancient temple from the Formative Period on the Peruvian central coast (1500 B.C.), have revealed the architectural design of an important section of the monument.

My research will explore the connections between landscapes and perceptions of self, people, and place, and how these relationships are changing in conjunction with Iceland’s changing climate.

This funding will support my Masters of Architecture graduate thesis project, which will examine the possible spatial and conceptual future for post-mining landscapes in the intermountain American West.

This project will promote an understanding of the international interdependence of horticulture and will disseminate the ways in which vernacular landscapes provide a form of resilience.
