“Crisis” seems an apt description of our current moment. This speaker series asks: what changes in these accounts of contemporary crisis when we consider how crisis conditions are unevenly distributed and how ideas of exceptional crisis are invoked to dominate? With these questions in mind, the series grapples with our contemporary crises through a global and historical interrogation of how a moment is made into a crisis, and for whom. To begin addressing the risks of crisis frameworks, the series features transnational and interdisciplinary scholarship that reframes “crisis” through the lenses of colonialism and empire.
