UVA East Asia Center 50th Anniversary Programming
UVA East Asia Center 50th Anniversary Programming - The East Asia Center will mark its 50th Anniversary with a series of events designed to invigorate our study of the region by bringing together faculty and students from earlier generations with current faculty and students. Our fall event will feature Peking University’s YU Keping, one of China’s leading scholars of democratic governance, in a symposium on the recent reemergence of “empire” as an aspiration in the United States and China, with Brantly Womack (Politics Emeritus) and Krishan Kumar (Sociology). Next April 17-18 we will invite back members of the previous generation for a mini-conference celebrating our anniversary.
