Transnational Memory through Filipino-/American Artwork
- Victoria Slabinski
This project contributes to the researcher’s dissertation, Decolonial Memories and Eschatological Hopes, which discusses and develops contemporary Filipino-/American Christian theologies by attending to the role of artwork within Filipino and Filipino American communities. This project turns to contemporary Filipino-/American artwork and conversations with artists, focusing on the ways that memory and hope are expressed in this artwork and on artists’ intentions for their work. The dissertation brings these sources into conversation with theological discourses and argues for the centrality of memory and imagination in Filipino-/American efforts to grapple with the ongoing legacies of colonialism and envision future transformation.
