Shadows of the Past: The Namibian Genocide and Its Impact on Modern Politics
This project aims to explore the long-term impacts of the Namibian genocide and the generational effects of German colonialism through a 15- to 20-minute research documentary. It is affiliated with an independent study course through UVA’s German Department and features interviews with affected minority groups and researchers. The film will examine how Namibians reconcile Germany's colonial past with the modern resurgence of German influence, particularly regarding “development aid.” The research will involve a 10-day trip to Namibia. The project will include interviews, visits to historically significant sites, and documentary footage to provide an in-depth look at these complex historical relationships.
