Achieving goals in global health requires moving data into practice, but low/middle income countries struggle in performing high quality clinical research, and very few studies done and published focus on surgery and emergency care. Building on an existing successful model, we will train residents and junior faculty from the specialties of anesthesiology, intensive care, surgery and emergency medicine in Rwanda in operational (i.e. practical, outcome-centered) research. Faculty from the University of Rwanda, UVa and VCU will direct the course. The course model is adapted to sites with restricted resources, and we intend to port it to other, related settings.
