New Directions in Black Disability Studies is a one-day conference hosted by the Carter G. Woodson Institute, with the support of the Center for Global Inquiry and Innovation. It brings scholars together across disciplinary lines to present original research expanding the geographical and theoretical boundaries of Black Disability Studies. The conference will prioritize new research on Black disability that centers Africa and diasporic communities beyond the United States. By seeking work on African conceptions of disability, the conference hopes to better root the field in the diverse, African social constructions of disability.
