An event honoring the career of Deborah E. McDowell, “'Love, All'": Tending the Tradition" celebrates McDowell's intellectual production, institution building, trailblazing leadership, and groundbreaking contributions to the field of African American literary studies and Black feminism as a scholar, editor, mentor, colleague, and friend. The conference gathers generations of scholars who have been influenced by Deborah McDowell’s mentorship and scholarship, including former students, distinguished colleagues, and UVA alumni from across nation and around the world. From May 21 - 24, the event will showcase papers and presentations focused on the vast impact of Deborah E. McDowell’s legacy.
