This is an ongoing ethnographic case study of two legalization processes for Central American migrants in Mexico—what are known as “humanitarian visas” in Monterrey, and the CBP One application (a Biden-era asylum system protocol, and its sudden dissolution under Trump) in Mexico City. Specifically, this study project aims to ascertain the unique health disparities Central American migrants face during resettlement in Mexico, and how certain legalization processes (or their denial) directly affect their health outcomes.
