Surgical outcomes in low/middle income countries (LMIC) are much worse than those in high income countries, causing millions of preventable deaths per year. Identification of at-risk patients and efficient allocation of human resources require rapid access to and analysis of digital clinical data, but paper-based charting makes this impossible. Our project will extract data from photographs of operating room and intensive care unit flowcharts and rapidly return this digital information to partners in LMIC. This will allow quality improvement and use of predictive analytical and geolocation models to help identify high-risk patients and allocate scarce human resources.
