Documenting (and Addressing) Threats to Global Democrac
This project enables two undergraduates to engage in research on the rise of authoritarianism and how non-violent social movements might be able to respond. The students will have the opportunity to work with UVA faculty and globally recognized democratic advocates on research that can have a material impact on actors, institutions, and social movements working for the expansion of democratic governance in nations constrained by authoritarian regimes. Finally, the research will also be publicly circulated as policy papers, book length studies, and curriculum. As such, the students will learn how to frame an interdisciplinary research question that can engage with public policy and democratic rights issues.
