Digitization and Restitution of El Látigo Nacional by Graciano López Jaena: Preserving a Filipino Revolutionary Legacy
This project centers on the digitization and restitution of El Látigo Nacional (1893), a text by Filipino propagandist Graciano López Jaena, to his homeland. Acquired in Barcelona, this historically significant artifact will be preserved and made accessible through high-resolution digitization. By returning the publication to the Philippines and engaging communities in its legacy, the project confronts colonial histories of cultural displacement. It restores an essential voice to national memory, fostering renewed discussions on justice and the Filipino revolutionary spirit. This text represents a key piece of the ephemeral literature that fueled the nation-building narratives produced by Filipino intellectuals who traveled to Spain, laying the groundwork for the revolutionary and anti-colonial movements that emerged at the turn of the century in the Philippines.
