Building Bright Windows into (Giant) Planet Formation at UVA
Fall 2025 CG Recipient
Research by:
ALMA, the world’s most powerful radio telescope, is currently undertaking a survey of particular newborn stars that will help us understand how giant planets form and evolve. The international team behind this project, called CHEER, will hold a 3-day workshop at UVA and NRAO to accomplish 3 goals: analyze the dataset; discuss core results; and draft scientific publications and legacy community outputs. CHEER members will collaborate with research groups, present to UVA and NRAO departments, and give public talks at local venues, sharing their scientific interests and progress with the public and encouraging more scientific engagement from the community.
