3Rivers of the Middle East Workshop
- Tessa Farmer (Anthropology)
The Workshop aims to develop an interdisciplinary research network focused on a comparative engagement with rivers in the SWANA (Southwest Asia and North Africa) region. Our workshop proposes a comparative and regional perspective beyond borders, particularist identities, and imperial interests. Looking at the Litani, Jordan, and Nile rivers as different aspects of one regional context will facilitate an alternative understanding of the SWANA and build towards an environmentally focused trans-disciplinary analytical framework for the examination of the past, present, and future of this region. The workshop will engage with political ecology beyond boundaries, while stressing the deep impact of colonialist occupation of the land.
