Critical to the success of global initiatives addressing surgical disease in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) are not only efforts to provide surgical care but also to prevent surgical disease. Extensive study has proven that pelvic floor therapy (PFT) is effective for the prevention or treatment of pelvic floor disorders and can avoid surgery in many patients. Despite this, women in LMIC have little access to PFT. Our project aims to establish a pelvic floor training center in Belize and provide a sustainable and scalable model for the development of an independent PFT program by in country health care providers.
