Emily Warwick (Politics)

My current research is focused on collective action and informal governance in the COVID-19 pandemic responses seen in the favelas of urban Brazil, particularly in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Thanks in part to the generous support of the Center for Global Innovation and Inquiry, this summer I will be conducting preliminary research to establish local contacts, pursue accelerated Portuguese language study, and conduct interviews with favela communities, NGO leaders, and local bureaucrats. This summer will help me to collect invaluable and difficult to access data and develop my research design and conceptualization, which will prove invaluable to my future MA thesis and dissertation work.
