Spain in Revolt: Cultural Responses to Twenty-First Century Crises

Joanne Britland, PhD Candidate (Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese)

My dissertation “Sufrir, salir, sobrevivir: Cultural Responses to the 2008 Crisis in Spain” examines questions of migration, poverty, economics, and sociology, as depicted through culture. The funds from the Center of Global Inquiry and Innovation will allow me to continue to develop and present my research on cultural production and the 2008 crisis in Spain. I will present my paper, “Spain in Revolt: Cultural Responses to Twenty-First Century Crises” at the 2019 Council for European Studies (CES) International Conference of Europeanists, which will be held at the Universidad Carlos III in Madrid. There, I will collaborate and develop my project with researchers from a variety of disciplines who focus on European Studies.
