What if we stop treating soil like dirt? Iceland provides a unique microcosm for the complex entanglements of being soil due to the natural conditions of being an island, the heightened reactivity to environmental changes being at the arctic edge, the short history of settlement, and the long history of both degradation and remediation. My research takes the form of an artistic atlas of interviews, drawings, and time-based media to give form to the personal, bodily, and metabolic dimensions of the soil in Iceland to move towards an enhanced empathy for ourselves and the non-humans of our world.
