Fall 2022 GGR Recipient

Dustin Thomas (Mediterranean Art & Archaeology)

This project will explore dynamics of intercultural interaction on the island of Cyprus during the first millennium BCE. It will create of digital 3D models of ancient Cypriot votive sculptures from the Fralin Museum collection and from the archaeological expedition to ancient Idalion in central Cyprus. Then, using stylistic analysis, the project will investigate the underlying vectors of production and dedication in the island’s multicultural networks that are represented by these objects. Additionally, these objectives will provide an opportunity to assess the efficacy and accessibility of photogrammetry and structured light scanning as tools in conducting research on ancient material culture.
