Cliff Maxwell leads the administration of Global Grounds, the home of the Global Mentors Program, the Center for Global Inquiry + Innovation, and the Global Studies major. He has served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal, received a Fulbright Commission grant for study in Sri Lanka, and formerly managed UVa’s J-1 exchange visitor visa program. Cliff focused the subject of his dissertation research on the perspectives and motivations of Buddhist laypersons in the practice of Vipassana mediation. Having previously instructed courses in cultural anthropology at the College of William & Mary, he currently teaches a course in Buddhist Development for undergraduates in Global Development Studies. Cliff is the Director and CEO of On Reserve, a non-profit corporation that partners with restaurants to make meals available to those with food insecurity. In his spare time, Cliff meditates, gardens, keeps bees, and gets home to the High Desert when he can.
