Cinema, architecture, art: Envisioning aesthetics, politics, citizenship and personal stories Avijit Mukul Kishore (at UVA) and Rohan Shivkumar (on skype from India), and Bilal Qureshi, moderated by Geeta Patel (October 2-4, 2019, UVA)

A three-day festival of documentaries from India, accompanied by discussions to encourage building communities of conversation across schools, departments and the Charlottesville community, hosted on UVa grounds. The films speak to architecture, art and domesticity into which politics are embedded and through which the politics of everyday life particularly in relation to nationalism and citizenship can be seen. The films are: “Nostalgia for the Future,” ”Lovely Villa” and “Vertical City” and finally “The Garden of Forgotten Snow.” Discussants include: Bilal Qureshi, Peter Waldman, Samhita Sunya, Hannah Catarin, John Echeverri-Gent and Dan Ehnbom.
