This project launches the Asian Urbanism Collaborative (AUC) as a global platform to advance the research and teaching in Asian urbanization. The goal of AUC is to map more accurately the cultural forces that have led to Asia’s enormously significant urbanization, and to establish a collaborative scholarly community. This project both recognizes the under-estimated importance of urbanization and brings indigenous intellectual frameworks into a productive exchange with those embedded in European and American experiences in urbanization. The launch events, in the form of a set of workshops, bringing together both the past accomplishments and future visions in a focused way, will advance the agenda of AUC.
